Sidney John ‘Stan’ Webb. Sussex C.C.C. Mono real photograph postcard of Webb depicted head and shoulders. Nicely signed in ink ‘Yours sincerely, S.J. Webb’. Annotation in ink to verso ‘Worcester v Sussex 1928’ when it is assumed the photograph was taken. Official stamp to verso for A. Wilkes & Son, West Bromwich. Postally unused. Slight wear to edges and corners, otherwise in good condition.
Stan Webb acted as baggage man for the Sussex team in the 1920s and 1930s and is often depicted in team photographs of the period, dressed immaculately in cricket attire, however he never played cricket for Sussex. He played football for Brighton & Hove Albion 1924-1935, making over 200 appearances as goalkeeper.
