‘Surrey v. Sussex’. Pooley’s record 1868. Early original silk scorecard produced to commemorate Ted Pooley’s achievement of the record number of twelve dismissals in a match by a wicket-keeper, taking eight catches and four stumpings at Kennington Oval 6th & 7th July 1868. Sussex (98 & 128) lost to Surrey (126 & 102/3) by seven wickets. John Bristow of Surrey took 7/45 in the first innings. Sussex captain, Charles Smith carried his bat for 47no in the second innings. Printer unknown. 5.5”x7”. Very good condition.
Pooley’s record stood until it was equalled by the Australian, Don Tallon, in 1938/39.
