M.C.C. tour to Australia 1920/21. Original official mono photograph of the ship R.M.S. Osterley on which the M.C.C. team travelled on both the outward and return voyages to Australia in 1920/21. The photograph laid down to photographer’s mount, which features hand drawn and coloured crossed flags of Britain and Australia centrally to the top mount border and photograph. Large handprinted titles to the top corners, to the left ‘England 1920-1’ and to the right ‘Australia 1921’. The borders have been signed in ink by members of the England and Australian teams. At the top the two captains and vice-captains Johnny Douglas and E. Rockley Wilson of England, Warwick Armstrong and Herbie Collins of Australia. Further and fully signed by the M.C.C. touring party to the left margin by Rhodes, Russell, Hendren, Fender, Dolphin, Strudwick, Hitch, Waddington, Makepeace, Woolley, Hobbs, Howell, Hearne, Parkin and the manager, Toone, and to the right margin by a further twelve Australian players, the majority of whom took part in the Ashes Test series, Andrews, Carter, Mailey, Macartney, Mayne, Bardsley, Ryder, Taylor, Oldfield, Hendry, McDonald, Gregory and their manager, Smith. Also signed to the lower portion of the photograph by A.J. Coad, Commander of the Osterley. The photograph, by Exchange Studios, Pitt Street, Sydney, measures 9.75”4.5”, laid to mount overall 13”x8.25”. The mount has been trimmed with rounded ‘arch’ corners. Some soiling to the mount with minor wear to the mount edges slightly affecting the Australian signatures, the photograph in otherwise good condition. Rare.
