Winners of Club Championship, 1908-9’, Fender Captain of cricket, by C.G. Haigh, London, and one smaller photograph with ornate hand printed title ‘Mr. P.G. Fender’s [school] XI. Sussex Tour, 1910’, signed in ink to the photograph by ten players including Fender. The photograph faded, one signature faded, others good. Photographer unknown. The majority of photographs measure approx. 11.5”x9.5”, each laid to official photographer’s mount, overall 16”x14”, one smaller. Surface spotting to two images, faults to some mounts, otherwise in good condition.
Fender attended St. Paul’s School in London from 1906 to 1910 and played for the school’s cricket eleven for three years, topping the batting averages in 1909. His school career ended abruptly in 1910 following an argument between Fender’s father and the headmaster, his father objecting to the school putting his son’s cricket before his studies.
