Hunter Scott Thomas Laurie ‘Stork’ Hendry. New South Wales, Victoria & Australia 1918-1936. Single page handwritten letter to ‘Dear Anthony’ dated 5th July 1985. Hendry describes a luncheon given to him by the Cricketers Club of New South Wales to celebrate his ninetieth birthday, at which ‘100 sat down & another 100 were turned away. Lack of accommodation’. He names some of the dignitaries present, and telegrams from the likes of Australian Prime Minister ‘Mr. Hawke’, State Governor ‘Mr. Wran’, from the M.C.C. at Lord’s, and ‘most unexpectedly but greatly appreciated from Allan Border & the [Australian] team’. He looks forward to receiving a copy of the correspondent’s book and hopes it is better than his own ‘”so called book” [which] was a great disappointment to me, full of mistakes’. He closes by saying ‘I am pleased slow bowlers are at least being recognised. To hell with these fast bowlers who attack all bar the stumps!!!’. Nicely signed by Hendry. Light folds. Good condition.
