Richard Smallpiece ‘Dick’ Whitington. South Australia 1932-1946. Two double-sided hand written aerogramme letters from Whitington to Jack Sokell of the Wombwell Cricket Lovers’ Society. In the first letter, dated 8th September 1954, Whitington opens by thanking Sokell for ‘the kindness you all showed me at Wombwell’. He comments on the impending Ashes tour, ‘I was surprised that Fred Trueman was not chosen and the tour will lose popular appeal’. The second letter, dated 9th March 1955, primarily relates to an article for a magazine, for which Whitington doesn’t have time to prepare, but is happy to offer ‘some of the chapter on Johnny Wardle from our next book Cricket Typhoon. I’m only too happy and so is Keith [Miller]’. Both letters signed ‘Dick Whittington’. Light folds. Good condition.
