Edward Mills Grace. Gloucestershire & England 1870-1896. Single page handwritten letter in ink from Grace to ‘Fredk. J. Warden’, on Park House, Thornbury headed note paper, dated 27th July 1898. In his capacity as Secretary, Grace writes ‘Gloucestershire will play the strongest team they can on Monday’. Nicely signed ‘Edward Mills Grace’. The letter with old tape repairs to tears, some foxing and wear, otherwise in good condition.
The Monday following the date of this letter corresponds with the match v Sussex at Bristol, 1st- 3rd August 1898. Gloucestershire did indeed field a strong team comprising W.G. Grace (senior and junior), Charlie Townsend, Gilbert Jessop, Harry Wrathall and Jack Board amongst others. The match was drawn.
