Australian tour of England 1905. ‘England v Australia, 5th Test, The Oval 1905’. Excellent large sepia photograph of the two teams, standing and seated in rows, the majority wearing blazers, caps and boaters, with the two Captains, F.S. Jackson and Joe Darling to centre. Players include, for England, Jackson, C.B. Fry, A.O.Jones, MacLaren, Hirst, Rhodes, Tyldesley, Spooner, Lilley, Brearley, Hayward, Darling, Trumper, Armstrong, Noble, Hopkins, Gregory, Kelly, Cotter, Duff, Newlands, Howell, Gehrs, Hill, McLeod etc. The photograph measures 11.25”x9.25” and is laid down to mount, overall measuring 11.75”x11.5”. It is apparent that there was an overmount to the photograph which has been removed leaving old adhesive marks and pieces of the old mount to edges. However this should not distract you from this wonderful photograph of the two teams presumably taken behind the Oval pavilion or similar. Good condition
The match was drawn, Fry made 144 in the first and Tyldesley 112 in the second innings fr England and Duff made 146 for Australia. Cotter took 7-148 in the first innings and Brearley took five in Australia’s first innings. England won the Ashes 2-0 with three Tests drawn
