‘Australia Cricket Team. New Zealand Tour, 1913-1914’. Excellent and rare large original mono photograph of the Australian touring party, seated and standing in rows, wearing cricket attire and blazers in front of a large marquee. Players are Arthur Simms (Captain and tour organiser), Armstrong, Trumper, Mailey, Cody, Collins, Crawford, Dolling, Laver, McGregor, McKenzie, Noble, Ransford and Waddy. The photograph by Ellerbeck Studio of Gisborne measures 7.5”x6” and is laid down to the photographers mount, overall measuring 13.5”x11.5”. The mount with minor wear and faults otherwise in good condition. A rarely seen tour photograph featuring Trumper and many of the prominent Australia Test players
The Australia cricket team toured New Zealand from February to April 1914 and played eight first-class matches including two against the New Zealand national team. New Zealand at this time had not been elevated to Test status. The tour was organised and captained by Arthur Sims, who had previously represented New Zealand. The tour is notable for the fact that it featured Victor Trumper’s final appearance in a first-class match before his death at age 37 in 1915. Australia did not lose a match, they drew or won all the games played on the tour
