The Ashes. England v Australia 1934. ‘Verity’s Match’. Official scorecard for the 2nd Test played at Lord’s, 22nd- 25th June 1934. The scorecard with complete printed and neatly handwritten scores in pencil. England scored 440 in their only innings, Leyland making 109 and Ames 120. In reply Australia reached 284 in their first innings, Hedley Verity taking seven wickets for 61 runs, Bill Brown scoring 105, and following on and on a rain affected pitch were bowled out for 118, Verity taking eight wickets for 43 runs. England winning by an innings and 38 runs. Nicely signed in black ink by Verity. The scorecard with light horizontal crease to centre otherwise in good condition. Hedley Verity’s second innings figures of eight wickets for 43 runs were his best innings bowling analysis in Test matches. His overall bowling figures for the match were fifteen wickets for 104 runs, he took fourteen wickets in one day.... Australia went on to win the 1934 Ashes series 2-1 with two matches drawn. The second Test, known as ‘Verity’s Match’, was England’s only Ashes victory over Australia at Lord’s in the twentieth century!
