The Ashes. England v Australia 1934. ‘Verity’s Match’. A selection of fourteen mono press photographs featuring this Test match and Tests at other grounds during the series. Photographs include action images including Sutcliffe batting at Lord’s, the players looking at the pitch at the end of the Lord’s Test, four photographs of crowd scenes of celebrations at winning the Test match ‘We want Verity’, crowd scene at the Oval with the match being played, Verity bowling at Old Trafford, Sutcliffe batting at Old Trafford, McCabe bowled by Bowes at Headingley, Hendren, Bowes, Mitchell and Nicolls watching the match from the pavilion at Headingley, Verity having his luggage being packed into a taxi prior to the leaving for home the morning after the Test at Lord’s, Darling batting at Headingley etc. Various sizes, smallest 5.5”x7.5”, largest 16”x11”. Hedley Verity’s second innings figures of eight wickets for 43 runs were his best innings bowling analysis in Test matches. His overall bowling figures for the match were fifteen wickets for 104 runs, , he took fourteen wickets in one day....!. Australia went on to win the 1934 Ashes series 2-1 with two matches drawn. The second Test, known as ‘Verity’s Match’, was England’s only Ashes victory over Australia at Lord’s in the twentieth century!
