The Ashes. England v Australia 1934. ‘Verity’s Match’. Two large mounted photographs from the match. The first shows the England team being introduced to Hedley Verity and the team on the pitch prior to the start of the match, the second features the massed crowds in front of the pavilion following the Test win by England. Verity had taken the last six wickets in the last hour of the match to give England their first win against Australia at Lord’s since 1896. Both photographs by Sport & General. Each measures 16”x13”. Hedley Verity’s second innings figures of eight wickets for 43 runs were his best innings bowling analysis in Test matches. His overall bowling figures for the match were fifteen wickets for 104 runs, , he took fourteen wickets in one day....!. Australia went on to win the 1934 Ashes series 2-1 with two matches drawn. The second Test, known as ‘Verity’s Match’, was England’s only Ashes victory over Australia at Lord’s in the twentieth century!
