Reverend David Stuart Sheppard. Cambridge University, Sussex & England 1950-1964. Sussex navy blue 1st XI cloth cricket cap worn by Sheppard during his playing career. The cap, by W.V. Brown of Eton, embroidered with the six martlet’s emblem of Sussex to front. The cap is a little worn and the colour of the emblem faded otherwise in good condition. Sold with a note of authentication stating that Sheppard had donated the cap to Worcestershire C.C.C. for auction to raise funds for the County when the club held itself a fund raising Benefit. Bought at the auction by a John Pugh of Worcester who then sold it on to the late vendor in July 2005
David Sheppard captained Sussex during the 1950’s and made over 15,000 first class runs with 45 centuries and played for England on twenty two occasions with three centuries. Sheppard became Bishop of Liverpool in 1975
