England v Rest of the World 1970. A pair of Gunn & Moore cricket wicket-keeping pads, one signed in ink to the front by the England team, the other by fourteen members of the Rest of the World team for the 2nd ‘Test’ played at Trent Bridge, 2nd- 7th July 1970. Both pads also signed by the umpires, Arthur Fagg and Charlie Elliott, fourteen signatures on each pad. England players’ signatures are Alan Ward, Brian Luckhurst, Keith Fletcher, Derek Underwood, Colin Cowdrey, John Edrich, John Snow, Tony Greig, David Brown, Ray Illingworth, Basil D’Oliveira and Alan Knott. Rest of the World signatures are Garry Sobers, Eddie Barlow, Intikhab Alam, Mike Procter, Lance Gibbs, Graeme Pollock, Clive Lloyd, Deryck Murray, Barry Richards, Graham McKenzie and Rohan Kanhai. Reputedly Alan Knott’s pads, a pair was signed at each ‘Test’ venue for fundraising purposes. Very good condition.
The five match ‘Test’ series was hastily set up to replace the South Africa tour to England, cancelled due to political pressure over apartheid. Although originally designated a full Test series by Wisden, its status was demoted three years later. England won the Trent Bridge match by eight wickets, the Rest of the World touring side won the series 4-1.
