Early cricket menu and Christmas card. Small original folding menu card for Jesus College, Cambridge, dated 9th November 1881. The elaborate front cover engraving depicts a winged insect (cricket) in batting stance at the wicket with college buildings in the background, titled ‘Cricket’. Adhesive marks to verso, slight splitting to fold. Sold with an early concertina fold Christmas card, the front titled ‘Cricket. Losing the Toss’ with cartoon of a boy being chased by a bull, and seven cartoon panels of humorous cricketing visual puns with titles printed to verso such as ‘A Good Hit’, ‘A Maiden Over’, ‘Thrown Out’ etc. Printer unknown.
