Cricket appointment postcard 1934. Plain postcard with interesting printed request for engagement as an amateur cricket player sent out to clubs by ‘J.R. Dixon’, who was living at the time at Ashmill Street, London NW1. Dixon describes himself as a ‘Late County Player... First Batsman, slow or steady or fairly sharp scorer... Bowling, Slow to Medium Leg Break with leg swerve’ and proposes terms for a trial period of four matches as an amateur for expenses or ‘as I am in Business as a Printer, a fair amount of Printing Orders each week’ with the option to ‘sign for any time required’. Dixon also puts in a word for ‘my Friend’, a wicket-keeper. The card is postmarked 29th June 1934. No record can be found of a J.R. Dixon who played first-class cricket. Minor wear and soiling, otherwise in good condition.
