‘Playing For England! My Test-Cricket Story’. Jack Hobbs. First edition, London 1931. Original red cloth. To the front cover is a caricature in ink of Hobbs by the artist, Norman Edwards, with an additional illustration by Edwards of a cricket bat to the spine. Two adhesive labels are laid to the front cover (one detached), annotated in ink ‘1st Edition 1931. Unique because Famous Cartoonist Norman Edwards has provided a cartoon of Jack Hobbs on cover and Autographed inside’. Signed to the front endpaper by Edwards. Padwick 7696. Some fading to spine, light wear to boards, otherwise in good condition.
Norman Edwards was a cartoonist based in Birmingham working for Sports Argus, the Evening Mail and Despatch and the Birmingham Post, and produced books on Birmingham City and Aston Villa in the 1940s/1950s.
