Gloucestershire cricket. ‘Scores made in County Matches by the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’, published by Arrowsmith, Bristol. A compilation of issues of the Annual comprising over 800 pages covering seasons 1870-1914, bound in red cloth with thirteen full page plates, title to spine ‘G.C.C.C. Scores 1870-1914’. Lacking eight matches (four leaves) in 1882, and one of the two plates for 1901. Presentation inscription in ink to front endpaper ‘The Skipper from Ros. In memory of many happy days. June 1921’. ‘Ros’ (H.E. Roslyn) was a well-known Bristol journalist, and ‘The Skipper’ was F.G. Robinson. An additional leaf is bound in to the front for a match from 1863 and one from 1868. Padwick 1970. Split to head of spine with some fading to spine paper, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
The scores for 1870 to 1889 were issued in a single volume in 1890. Volumes were issued annually from 1875 until 1914. Photographic plates for each year were introduced in 1900. Foster Gotch Robinson (Gloucestershire 1903-1923) captained the side 1919-1921.
