British Lions tour of South Africa 1938. A rare gilt metal pin badge in the form of a gilt lion, the reverse impressed ‘B.R.F.T 1938’ (British Rugby Football Tour). Complete with original pin fittings and in very good condition. Sold with an official menu for ‘A Tribute to the Lions’ for a Dinner held at the ‘Balmoral Conference Rooms, Belfast’ on the 26th April 2001 signed to inside pages by fifteen Irish players who have represented the Lions team and guest speaker Fran Cotton. Signatures in ink include Willie John McBride ((1962-1874 tours)Ronnie Lamont (1966 tour), Robin Thompson (1955), Cecil Pedlow (1955), Ray Hunter (1962), Jack Kyle (1950), Jimmy Nelson (1950), Trevor Ringland (1983), Colin Patterson (1980), Syd Millar (1959, 1962 and 1968) etc. Qty 2
These lion-shaped lapel pins were famously produced for tours in 1938 to South Africa and 1950 to New Zealand and given out to players and officials on the tour
