Hon. Mortimer Granville Tollemache. Cambridge University 1891-1893. ‘Skeleton Leg Guards’. A pair of original late 19th century open ribbed (skeleton) cane and leather skeleton leg guards (cricket pads) circa 1890’s worn by Tollemache whilst playing for Eton and Cambridge University. The pads made from a combination of suede, canvas and horse hair with the protection provided by covered split canes. Secured to the leg by leather straps and buckles. Odd minor faults otherwise in good condition
Tollemache played for Eton 1887-1889 and Cambridge University 1891 to 1893. Although he ever won a blue, he played minor counties cricket for Cheshire and Suffolk. The pads were previously sold through auction by a family member
