‘All England Eleven against United Eleven, for the Benefit of The Cricketers’ Fund)’ 1861. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Lord’s, 3rd- 5th June 1861. All England batted first, making only 74 with H.H. Stephenson top scorer with 22, William Caffyn taking 5/41. In reply, United England scraped to just 61, no batsman reaching double figures. John Jackson took 7/31. In the second innings All England lost four early wickets but rallied to 152, Richard Daft scoring 48, Jackson 41, William Buttress taking 5/66. Set 165 to win, United England were just five runs short when last man, Buttress, was run out without scoring to hand victory to All England in an exciting match. Other prominent players to feature in the match include Tom Hayward, George Parr, Julius Caesar, George Tarrant, Thomas Hearne, James Grundy, John Lillywhite, John Wisden, Tom Lockyer etc. Printed ‘By Authority of Mr. J.H. Dark’ by F. Lillywhite with fixtures at Lord’s and advertising for the publication of the ‘English Cricketer’s Trip to Canada and the United States’ and ‘Lillywhite’s Guide to Cricketers’ to lower portion of front, and further fixtures and advertising for Lillywhite’s Guide etc. to verso. 4.5”x6”. Horizontal folds, minor soiling, otherwise in good condition.
