‘Surrey Club [Colts] v. Southgate’ 1863. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Kennington Oval, 30th & 31st July 1863. Surrey Colts batted first and were bowled out for 109 with Thomas Hearne taking 5/34. Replying, Southgate then amassed a substantial 494, with innings of 101 by Isaac Walker, 91 from Edward Walker, also Hearne (61) and Joseph Makinson (59). Surrey were then bowled out for 124 in their second innings with Edward and Russell Walker involved in nine out of the ten wickets to fall. Southgate won by the substantial margin of an innings and 261 runs. Four Walker brothers took part in this match, Russell, Isaac, Edward and John. Printed ‘By Authority’ by F. Lillywhite with announcement of the publication of the first three volumes of Fred Lillywhite’s ‘Scores and Biographies from 1746 to 1848’ to the front, fixtures at The Oval and other Lillywhite publications and cricket supplies to verso. 4.5”x6”. Horizontal fold, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
The seven Walker brothers, known as the ‘Walkers of Southgate’ were instrumental in the founding of Middlesex C.C.C. in 1864 and establishing Lord’s as their home ground.
