Gentlemen v. Players 1864 and 1865. Two early original single sided scorecards for matches played at Kennington Oval, 23rd- 25th June 1864 and 3rd- 5th July 1865. The 1864 scorecard with incomplete printed scores, which the Players won by the significant margin of 205 runs in a match in which over 1000 runs were scored for the first time in this fixture. The 1865 scorecard lists the complete printed scores and features the first appearance of W.G. Grace, aged only sixteen years old, in this fixture and only his second first-class appearance. He took seven wickets in the match, scored 23 and 12no, but the Players won by 118 runs. Both scorecards printed ‘By Authority’ by Fred Lillywhite with advertising to margins for Lillywhite’s publications and cricket supplies. Each measures 4.5”x6”. Horizontal fold to the 1864 scorecard, minor soiling, otherwise in good condition.
