‘Grand Cricket Match. Yorkshire versus Nottinghamshire 1869. Early original single sided scorecard with incomplete printed scores for the match played at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, 16th- 18th August 1869. Nottinghamshire batted first and reached 213 (Richard Daft 50, Tom Emmett 5/64). In reply Yorkshire made 205 (Joseph Rowbotham 100, George Wootton 5/64). In the second innings Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 79 (Daft 31no), with Emmett (7/35) and George Freeman (3/40) bowling unchanged. Yorkshire then knocked off the required runs to close 89/5 and secure victory by five wickets. Tom Emmett ended with match bowling figures of twelve wickets for 111 runs. Printed by W. Whittam, ‘Printer for the the All England Eleven’. 4.5”x6”. Local advertising and notice of a benefit match for ‘Harry Barber’ to lower margin. Horizontal fold with some splitting and tape repair to verso. Some soiling and creasing, otherwise in good condition.
George Summers (Nottinghamshire 1867-1870) who played in this match died the following year after being struck on the head by a ball at Lord’s.
