‘Eton v. Harrow’ 1870 and 1871. Two early original single sided scorecards for matches played at Lord’s 8th & 9th July 1870 and 14th & 15th July 1871. Both scorecards with complete printed scores. In the 1870 match Eton, captained by G.R.C. (later Lord) Harris, won by 21 runs, scoring 189 and 151 to Harrow’s 205 and 114. In the 1871 match, Eton won easily by an innings and 77 runs, scoring 308 in their only innings (A.W. Ridley 117), Harrow being dismissed for 133 and 98. Other players who went on to play first-class county cricket include George Longman (Hampshire), Arthur Tabor (Middlesex), Lord Clifton, brother of Ivo Bligh (Kent), Arthur Ridley (Hampshire, Kent & Middlesex), William Law, Theodore Dury (Yorkshire) etc. Both scorecards 4.5”x6”, with handwritten results annotated in ink, and adhesive marks to verso where previously laid down, otherwise in very good condition.
