American Baseball Players tour to England 1874. ‘Princes’ Club & Ground v. Eighteen of America’. Early and rare original single sided scorecard with complete printed and handwritten scores in ink for the match played at the Prince’s Ground, Chelsea, 6th & 7th August 1874. Prince’s Club batted first and were bowled out for only 21 with seven players scoring ducks. Only F.D. Leyland reached double figures, ending 10no. In reply, the eighteen American Baseball players scored 110, and they then bowled out Prince’s Club for 39 to win by an innings and 50 runs. Some wear to right edge and corners, otherwise in good condition.
The tour was arranged to promote baseball in this country. Combined with exhibitions of baseball, they played seven cricket matches, all against weak sides, winning four, drawing three, and losing none. On the Prince’s Club side, only Alfred Luff (Surrey, 3 matches in 1867) had played County cricket. He scored 0 in both innings.
