‘Surrey v. Gloucestershire’ 1875. Early original double sided scorecard for the match played at Kennington Oval, 7th & 8th June 1875. Scheduled for three days but completed in two, the scorecard with complete printed scores in a relatively low scoring and close match. Surrey elected to bat first and reached 161 (George Strachan 34). In reply, Gloucestershire, captained by W.G. Grace, were dismissed for 99 (G.F. Grace 26, James Southerton 7/47). In the second innings Surrey reached 106 (Henry Jupp 40, G.F. Grace 6/48). Set 169 to win, Gloucestershire were bowled out for 142 with George Wyatt and G.F. Grace both scoring 37 and Southerton taking a further five wickets to return match bowling figures of twelve wickets for 102 runs, and Surrey wicket-keeper, Ted Pooley, claiming five victims (six in the match including W.G. Grace in both innings). Fred Grace took ten wickets in the match for 94 runs. Printer’s name trimmed to lower border. Advertising to verso for Kent & Lewin, James Lillywhite Frowd & Co., Edward J. Page etc. 4.5”x6”. Originally from the collection of E.B. Bocquet. Horizontal fold and light creasing, otherwise in good condition.
