‘Surrey v. Middlesex’ 1875. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed and handwritten scores in ink for the match played at Kennington Oval, 19th- 21st August June 1875. Surrey won the toss and batted first, making 293 with Walter Read, then aged only 19, top scorer with 98. Middlesex, with brothers Alexander (aged 20) and Herbert (aged 19) Webbe opening the batting, were then dismissed for 118, Walter Hadow ending 45no. Following on in the second innings, Middlesex reached 202 (Charles Green 54), leaving Surrey only 28 runs for victory, which they reached without loss to win by ten wickets. Surrey’s James Southerton and James Street took eighteen wickets between them, Southerton ending with match figures of 12 wickets for 143 runs, and their wicket-keeper, Ted Pooley, claiming eight victims.
