Eton v. Harrow 1876 and 1877. Two early original double sided scorecards for matches played at Lord’s 14th & 15th July 1876 and 13th & 14th July 1877. Both scorecards with complete printed scores. In the 1876 match Eton reached an impressive 308 with their captain, Walter Forbes scoring 113, Lindsay Bury 72 and Harry Goodhart 51. In reply, Harrow could reach only 157 and following on were dismissed for 127, Eton winning by an innings and 24 runs. Playing for Eton, future England captain Ivo Bligh (Kent) made his first appearance at Lord’s. The 1877 match was drawn, Harrow scoring 157 and 193, Eton replying with 157 and 78/1. The Eton side of 1877 featured three Studd brothers, Charles (Middlesex & England, 5 Tests), George (Middlesex & England, 4 Tests), and Kynaston (Middlesex). Others who went on to play first-class county cricket include Bill Patterson (Kent), Herbert Whitfield (Sussex), Perceval Henery (Middlesex) etc. Both scorecards with results annotated in ink to fronts. Fixtures at Lord’s printed to verso of both. Printers unknown. Each 4.5”x6”. Adhesive marks to verso of both scorecards where previously laid down, small loss to lower corner of the 1876 card, horizontal fold to the 1877 card, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
