‘Grand Cricket Match. Yorkshire v. Gloucestershire’ 1877. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, 30th July- 1st August 1877. Gloucestershire, featuring the three Graces, W.G., E.M. and G.F., and their cousin, Walter Gilbert, elected to bat first and reached 185, Fred Grace top scorer with 51. In reply, Yorkshire made 236 with opener Andrew Greenwood top scorer with 91. All four members of the Grace family bowled, Gilbert taking 6/34. In the second innings Gloucestershire made 189, W.G. Grace highest with 84. Set 139 to win, Yorkshire had reached 121/9 when stumps were drawn and the match declared a draw to the disappointment of the large crowd present. Printer unknown. Advertising to verso for ‘The All England Cricket and Football Journal and Athletic Review’. 4.5”x6”. Very good condition.
The Gloucestershire team also featured Billy Midwinter who went on to become the only player to appear for Australia in England and for England in Australia.
