‘Surrey v. Notts.’ 1878. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Kennington Oval, 26th- 28th August 1878. In a low scoring match played on a rain affected wicket, Nottinghamshire elected to bat first and reached 127 off 131.2 (four ball overs), Wilfred Flowers top scorer with 36, Surrey’s Edward Barrett taking 5/52 off 57.2 overs including 32 maidens. In reply Surrey were bowled out for just 53, Barrett the only player to reach double figures with 16. In the second innings, Nottinghamshire reached 157 (John Selby 56), and then bowled out Surrey for 92 (J. Shuter 45, A.P. Lucas 11) to win by 139 runs. Nottinghamshire’s Alfred Shaw and Fred Morley bowled an incredible 182.1 overs in the match between them, Shaw ending with match figures of eight wickets for 43 runs off 84.1 overs, Morley with eight wickets for 68 runs off 88 overs.
