‘Grand Cricket Match. Middlesex v. Yorkshire’ 1883. Early original single sided scorecard for the match played at St. John’s Cricket Ground, Fartown, Huddersfield, 23rd- 25th August 1883. Incomplete printed and handwritten scores. Middlesex elected to bat first and scored 304, Isaac Walker top scorer with 76, Alfred Lyttelton 52. In reply Yorkshire made 236 (Edward Lumb 70no, George Ulyett 65, Charles Studd taking 7/78). Middlesex then made 242 in their second innings (Lyttelton 68, Edmund Peate 5/61) and Yorkshire ended 198/4 (Louis Hall 87no). The match was drawn. Advertising to lower margin for ‘[William] Whittam a Poet! Whittam an Author! His great book on the game may be had on the Ground’, also R.G. Barlow outfitter and ‘The Young Cricketer’s Guide by R.G. Barlow, acknowledged to be the best book on Cricket ever published’. 4.5”x6”. Split to horizontal fold with tape repair to verso, otherwise in good condition.
