Australia tour to England 1886. ‘Surrey v. Australians’. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the tour match played at Kennington Oval, 29th- 31st July 1886. Electing to bat first having won the toss, the Australians could reach only 185, George Giffen top scorer with 59, Thomas Bowley taking 7/64 for Surrey. In reply, Surrey then amassed a total of 501 with centuries from John Read (186) and Bobby Abel (144), and 80 from Walter Read, Giffen taking 6/106. The Australians were then bowled out cheaply once more, this time for 107, Giffen top scorer again, with 39, George Lohmann the pick of the bowlers with 6/58. Surrey ran out winners by an innings and 209 runs, to inflict the heaviest defeat on a touring Australian side. Printed on the ground by Wright & Co., London.
