Australia tour to England 1886. ‘England v. Australia’. Third Test 1886. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the third and final Test match, Kennington Oval, 12th- 14th August 1886. England won the toss and elected to bat first, posting an impressive total of 434 including 170 from W.G. Grace, his second (and final) Test century, surpassing his previous best Test score. Other contributions came from Walter Read (94) and Johnny Briggs (53). Following heavy overnight rain, in reply Australia were dismissed cheaply for only 68, with George Lohman bowling unchanged and taking 7/36. Following on, Australia were bowled out a second time, for 149 (George Giffen 47), Lohmann taking a further five wickets to return match bowling figures of twelve wickets for 104 runs. England won by an innings and 217 runs to inflict the heaviest defeat to date on an Australian Test team in England. Printed on the ground by Wright & Co., London, with advertising to verso for ‘Cricket. A Weekly Record of the Game’. 4.5”x6”. Minor age toning, otherwise in very good condition.
England won all three matches in the 1886 series to retain the Ashes.
