Australia tour to England 1886. ‘Cambridge [University] Past & Present v. Australians’. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the tour match played at the Essex County Ground, Leyton, 23rd- 25th August 1886. Cambridge batted first and made 349, with opening batsman Claude Rock batting all day for his 75, which included only one boundary. He was dismissed on the second day without adding to his score. In reply the Australians reached 379, George Giffen top scorer with 119, Augustus Ford taking 5/76 for Cambridge. In the second innings, Cambridge were on 149/4 at the close of the third day’s play and the match was drawn. Originally from the collection of F.M. Lucas (Sussex) who played for Cambridge in this match. Printed on the ground by Wright & Co., London, with advertising to verso for F.H. Ayres sports equipment supplier. 4.5”x6”. Adhesive marks to verso where previously laid down, horizontal fold, otherwise in very good condition.
