‘Official Score. Sussex and Lancashire’ 1886. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Hove, 9th- 11th August 1886. Lancashire elected to bat first and made 211, Walter Robinson top scorer with 54. In reply, Sussex, whose team included the future England captain and Hollywood actor, Charles Aubrey Smith, reached 200, William Tester and Freeman Thomas both scoring 58, Dick Barlow taking 6/55 for Lancashire. Lancashire were then skittled out for 60 in their second innings, with only Oswald Lancashire (21) reaching double figures. Set 72 to win, Sussex ended 73/6 to win by four wickets. Printed by Crowhurst of Brighton with local advertising to verso. Originally from the collection of F.M. Lucas who captained Sussex in this match. Adhesive marks to verso where previously laid down, otherwise in very good condition.
