Australia tour to England 1886. ‘Gentlemen of England v. Australians’. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed and handwritten scores in ink for the match played at Lord’s, 3rd & 4th June 1886. Scheduled for three days but completed in two, the Gentlemen, featuring W.G. Grace, Claude Rock, Walter Read, William Roller, Lord Harris, George Studd etc., were put in to bat first and dismissed for 99, Stanley Scott the top scorer with 16. In reply the Australians, including Blackham, Trumble, Palmer, Spofforth etc., reached 150 (George Bonnor 39), before bowling out the Gentlemen in the second innings for 136, George Giffen taking 6/71. Set 86 to win, the Australians reached their target for the loss of three batsmen to win by seven wickets. Fixtures for matches at Lord’s and M.C.C. ‘out-matches’ printed to verso. 4.5”x6”. Some age toning, otherwise in good condition.
