Sussex v. Hampshire 1887. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at the County Ground, Hove, 14th- 16th July 1887 (not first-class). Sussex, whose team included the future England captain and Hollywood actor, Charles Aubrey Smith, batted first and made 244, George Bean top scorer with 60. In reply, Hampshire reached 170 (Henry Mordaunt 34, Bean 5/45). In the second innings Sussex scored 307 (Walter Quaife 52, Walter Humphreys 55no, Cecil Currie 5/98). Set an unlikely 382 to win, Hampshire were bowled out for 196, Sussex winning by 185 runs. Printed by Crowhurst of Brighton with local advertising to verso. 4.75”x7.5”. Light horizontal fold, small loss to lower left corner, uneven trimming to right edge, adhesive marks to verso where previously laid down, otherwise in good condition.
Following a series of seasons with poor results, Hampshire lost their first-class status in 1885 until invited to join the County Championship in 1895.
