Australia tour to England 1890. ‘The [Cambridge] University v. Australians’. Early original scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Fenner’s Ground, Cambridge, 5th- 7th June 1890. Cambridge University batted first and reached 189, Gregor MacGregor top scorer with 73no, and Hugh Trumble taking five catches at slip. In reply the Australians ended the first day at 95/3 and batted through the second day to end 351 all out Jack Barrett 76, Billy Murdoch 73. Cambridge then batted through the final day, finally being dismissed for 357 (Edward Streatfeild 74no, Robert Douglas 57) and the match was drawn. Originally from the collection of Cyril Foley who played for Cambridge in this match. Printed on blue, the card appears to have been laid down to tightly trimmed white card with the initials ‘C.P.F.’ annotated in ink to verso. Good/ very good condition.
