Australia tour to England 1893. ‘England v. Australia’. First Test, Lord’s 17th- 19th July 1893. Early original double sided scorecard with incomplete printed scores. England elected to bat first and thanks to a fine 106 from opener Arthur Shrewsbury, and 91 from Test debutant Stanley Jackson, they posted 334. Australia’s Charlie Turner took 6/67. Australia replied with 269, Harry Graham scoring 107 in his maiden Test innings and the first Australian to score a century at Lord’s, in a partnership worth 142 with Syd Gregory (57), Ephraim Lockwood taking 6/101. In the second innings, England reached 234/8 before making the first declaration in Test cricket. Shrewsbury scored 81 and William Gunn 77, George Giffen taking 5/43, but rain prevented any further play and the match was drawn. Fixtures at Lord’s for season 1893 to verso. Very good condition.
