‘Gravesend Cricket Week, 1893. Kent v. Middlesex’. Early original double sided scorecard with incomplete printed scores for the match played at the Bat and Ball Ground, Gravesend, 19th & 20th June 1893. Middlesex elected to bat first, scoring 288, A.E. Stoddart (51) and A.J. Webbe (46) putting on 99 for the first wicket. In reply Kent made 227, Frank Marchant scoring 57, Lance Knowles 43, with last man ‘Nutty’ Martin scoring 32no in a last wicket stand of 38. J.T. Hearne took 6/104 for Middlesex. Both second innings were low scoring, Middlesex reaching 98 with 48 from Francis Ford, Alec Hearne taking 5/44. Kent were then dismissed for 75, J.T. Hearne and John Rawlin taking five wickets each, Middlesex winning by 84 runs in two days. Playing for Kent in this match, William Hargreaves made his only first-class appearance, scoring 10 and 0. Printed on the ground by J. Caddel of Gravesend. Local advertising to front and verso. 5.5”x7.25”. Faint pencil annotations, some foxing, otherwise in good condition.
