‘Somerset v. Middlesex’ 1893. Early original scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at Taunton, 7th- 9th August 1893. Somerset chose to bat first and made 380, with contributions from Lionel Palairet (91), Charles Dunlop (62), Sammy Woods (58), Dick Palairet (51) etc. Middlesex replied with 266, Alec Webbe scoring 75, Woods taking 7/122. Required to follow on, Middlesex declared their second innings at 367/8 (Tim O’Brien 84, Francis Ford 63, James Douglas 54), setting a target of 254, which Somerset could not achieve, ending 109/7 still needing 145 to win, Hearne taking 5/47. Originally from the collection of Cyril Foley who played for Middlesex in this match. The card appears to have been laid down to tightly trimmed white card with the initials ‘C.P.F.’ annotated in ink to verso. Very good condition.
