Middlesex C.C.C. 1894. Three early original scorecards with complete printed scores for Middlesex matches from 1894. Matches are v. Surrey at Kennington Oval, 24th-25th May, Surrey won by five wickets, Bobby Abel top scoring in the match with 136 (including an all-run seven) in Surrey’s first innings. v. Gloucestershire at Lord’s, 28th- 30th May, Middlesex won by an innings and 104 runs, scoring 223 in their only innings before dismissing Gloucestershire cheaply for 72 and 47, W.G. Grace scoring 0 & 1, J.T. Rawlin (12 wickets) and J.T. Hearne (8) taking all twenty Gloucestershire wickets in the match. v. Yorkshire at Lord’s, 31st May- 1st June, a low scoring game in which Middlesex scored 92 & 63, Yorkshire 81 and 75/7, Yorkshire winning by three wickets. J.T. Hearne took eleven wickets for Middlesex in the match. All three scorecards measure 4”x6” and appear to have been laid to tightly trimmed cards with the initials ‘C.P.F’ of Cyril Foley to verso, from whose collections these originate. Foley played for Middlesex in all three matches. Very good condition.
Cyril Foley did not have much success in these three matches. In the five innings in which he batted he did not reach double figures once, being dismissed for scores of 8, 0, 2, 0 and 1.
