‘Kent v. Surrey. (Wootton’s Benefit)’ 1894. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the match played at the Private Banks Sports Ground, Catford, 23rd- 25th July 1894. In a relatively low scoring game, Kent chose to bat first and scored 113, Leslie Wilson top scorer with 38, Bill Lockwood taking 5/49 for Surrey. Replying, Surrey were bowled out for 77, only Bobby Abel (30) and Tom Hayward (14) reaching double figures, Walter Hearne taking 7/46 for Kent. Kent then posted 112 in their second innings, (Wilson 42, Lance Knowles 32, Jack Mason 26), Lockwood taking 8/34. Kent then bowled out Surrey for 92, (Bill Brockwell 30, Hearne 6/52) to win by 57 runs. Kent’s Hearne finished with match bowling figures of 13 wickets for 98 runs, with Surrey’s Lockwood also taking 13 wickets, for 73 runs. Printed on the ground by Fieldson & Co., Catford. 4.5”x6”. Originally from the collection of J.R. Mason who played for Kent in this game. The scorecard laid to tightly trimmed card with slight uneven trimming, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
