‘Middlesex v. Yorkshire’ 1896. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed and handwritten scores in pencil for the match played at Lord’s, 21st- 23rd May 1896. Middlesex elected to bat first and posted 384 thanks to an opening stand of 218 by Herbert Hayman (152, his first first-class century) and Andrew Stoddart (100). Yorkshire came close to matching their opponents with 381, John Brown hitting 203, John Tunnicliffe 62, Middlesex’s John Hearne taking 7/104. Middlesex were then bowled out in their second innings for 142 (Tim O’Brien 57, Bobby Peel taking 6/28 and ten wickets in the match) to set Yorkshire 146 to win. Yorkshire openers Tunnicliffe (63no) and Brown (81no) saw them home to win by ten wickets. Printed fixtures at Lord’s to verso. Horizontal fold, staining to verso, some soiling, otherwise in good condition.
