Essex C.C.C. 1901 & 1902. Four early original double sided scorecards for county matches played by Essex. Scorecards include two for ‘home’ matches v. Middlesex played at Leyton. One played 1st- 3rd August 1901 with incomplete printed and handwritten scores in pencil. Plum Warner scored 103 in Middlesex’s first innings, and 111 from Johnny Turner for Essex. 151 from Middlesex’s James Douglas could not prevent Essex winning by 92 runs. The other for the drawn match played 31st July- 2nd August 1902 with complete printed scores, Charlie McGahey scoring 126 in Essex’s first innings, James Douglas with 180 and Cyril Wells 105 for Middlesex in their first innings. Two further scorecards are for ‘Canterbury Grand Cricket Week’ matches, Kent v. Essex. One played 5th- 7th August 1901 complete handwritten scores in ink for the drawn match featuring centuries by Percy Perrin (104 for Essex), and Ted Dillon (103no for Kent). The other for the rain affected drawn match played 4th- 6th August 1902, listing the teams at the start of play. All measure 5”x8.25”, each with local advertising to verso. Good/ very good condition.
