South Africa tour to England 1904. ‘Middlesex v. South Africans’. Rare early original double sided scorecard with incomplete printed and faint handwritten scores in pencil for the tied tour match played at Lord’s 20th- 22nd June 1904. Middlesex elected to bat first and reached 272, Bernard Bosanquet scoring 110, J.J. Kotze taking 5/94. In reply the South Africans edged ahead with a score of 287, (Frank Mitchell 66, William Shalders 56). In the second innings Middlesex made 225 (Bosanquet 44, Reggie Schwartz 5/48), setting the South Africans 211 to win. Opener Louis Tancred batted well for his 75, but the only real support came from Buck Llewellyn with 60. However with the scores level, Kotze was clean bowled by Trott and the game was tied. Printed fixtures for matches at Lord’s in 1904 to verso. Very good condition.
