South Africa tour to England 1904. ‘England XI v. South Africans’. Early original double sided scorecard with complete printed scores for the tour match played at Lord’s 14th- 16th July 1904. The South Africans elected to bat first and scored 352, Reggie Schwartz scoring 102, Frank Mitchell 75. Replying, the England XI could reach only 167 (John King 55). In the second innings, the South Africans made 207 (Maitland Hathorn 69, Barberton Halliwell 57no, Jack Hearne 5/90), setting a target of 393. The England XI fell well short, King again the top scorer with 72, Jimmy Sinclair taking 6/67, the English being dismissed for 203, South Africans winning by 189 runs. Hero of the match was Schwartz for the South Africans with his only first-class century, and taking eight wickets in the match including that of Ranjitsinhji in both innings. Printed ‘Results since 1893’ and fixtures at Lord’s for 1904 to verso. Minor staining, otherwise in good/very good condition.
