Australia tour to England 1905. ‘England v. Australia’. First Test. Early original double sided scorecard with incomplete printed scores for the 1st Test at Trent Bridge, 29th- 31st May 1905. England won the toss, elected to bat and were bundled out for 196, Frank Laver taking 7/64. Top scorer was Johnny Tyldesley with 56. Replying, Australia scored 221, a lead of 25 runs, with Clem Hill scoring 54, Monty Nobel 50. Stanley Jackson took 5/52, his best Test bowling figures. However Victor Trumper retired hurt when on 13 with a back strain sustained when attempting a slip catch and took no further part in the match. England then posted a significant second innings score, declaring at 426/5 with Archie MacLaren making 140, his then record fifth Test century, also his highest and last century in Test cricket. Other contributions came from Jackson with 82no, and Tyldesley 61. Requiring 402 to win (and without Trumper), Bernard Bosanquet almost singlehandedly bowled out the Australians for 188, taking eight wickets for 107 runs, his best Test figures, England winning easily by 213 runs. Printed by C.H. Richards of Nottingham. Trent Bridge fixtures and local advertising to verso. 4.75”x7.25”. Vertical fold and diagonal crease, light soiling, otherwise in good condition.
