M.C.C. tour to South Africa ‘Timeless Test Series’ 1938/39. Official double sided scorecard for the 5th Test played at Durban, 3rd- 14th March 1939. The scorecard with only partially completed scores in ink. South Africa batted first and were dismissed on the third day’s play for 530, Pieter van der Bijl top scorer with 125, Dudley Nourse 103. Perks took 5/100 for England who replied with 316 (Ames 84). In their second innings South Africa reached 481 (Alan Melville 103). Set no less than 696 to win, England set about their task on day seven. There was no play on day 8, and by the tenth day of play had reached an impressive 654/5 (Edrich 219, Hammond 140, Gibb 120), only 42 runs short when the match had to be called off for a thunderstorm. The match was declared a draw as the touring party had to catch the ship back to England. Printed by John Ramsay, Durban. 6”x10”. Horizontal fold and minor soiling, otherwise in good condition.
